Full job description
The Trade Desk seeks a senior commercial transactions attorney with 8+ years of experience, admitted to practice or able to register in New York, Illinois, or California, preferably with digital advertising/media experience. The role involves providing legal leadership on global data initiatives, structuring and negotiating commercial agreements focused on data licensing and rights, collaborating cross-functionally, improving legal processes, mentoring attorneys, and advising on legal risks and compliance. Strong judgment, negotiation skills, and ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly are required. What you'll do
- Provide legal leadership on global strategic data initiatives
- Gain deep technical understanding of adtech data flows and technology
- Structure, draft, and negotiate commercial agreements focusing on data licensing and data rights
- Collaborate with data partnerships, business development, product, privacy, and policy teams
- Improve legal templates, playbooks, and processes for global scalability
- Streamline, automate, and scale global data processes
- Mentor other attorneys
- Provide practical advice on legal issues and risks
- Identify, research, analyze, and address potential legal risks
- Keep abreast of legislative changes globally
- Communicate complex legal concepts in layman’s terms
Requirements
- 8+ years in house or in combination with an internationally/nationally recognized law firm experience required
- Admitted to practice in New York, Illinois, or California or the ability to register as In-House Counsel in New York, Illinois, or California
- Juris doctorate required
- Experience in digital advertising and/or digital media strongly preferred
- Significant experience leading legal negotiations with large global companies
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience managing outside counsel
- Excellent business judgement and leadership skills
- Exceptional critical thinking skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent legal skills in structuring, drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial technology agreements
- Strong business sense and ability to exercise good business judgement
