Full job description

Smadex is hiring a Cyber Security Engineer to protect its high-traffic programmatic infrastructure. The role involves architecting and deploying cloud-native security protocols, designing automated threat detection and response for cloud and container environments, managing vulnerability assessments and penetration testing, securing software supply chains and third-party dependencies, partnering with engineering and DevOps for secure system design and API security, leading incident response and forensic investigations, ensuring GDPR-compliant data privacy, maintaining security documentation, and promoting a security-first culture. Requirements include 4-5+ years in cybersecurity/security engineering, expertise in AWS/GCP, Linux, containers, API security, cloud-native security tools, SIEM, vulnerability scanners, GDPR knowledge, supply chain security, scripting skills in Python/Bash, and a relevant bachelor's degree. Benefits include a dynamic team, competitive compensation, central Barcelona office with amenities, hybrid work (2 days remote), meal vouchers, gym allowance, training, and social events. No visa sponsorship is provided; candidates must have legal work authorization in Spain.

What you'll do

  • Architect and deploy scalable, cloud-native security protocols (e.g., WAF, Security Groups, GuardDuty, CSPM) to safeguard high-traffic, API driven infrastructure
  • Design and maintain automated threat detection rules and response mechanisms for cloud and container environments
  • Manage continuous vulnerability assessments programs and coordinate third-party penetration testing to identify and remediate risks within cloud-native and Linux environments
  • Secure software supply chain and third-party dependencies, focusing on SDK security and data partner integrations critical to ad-tech
  • Partner with engineering and DevOps teams to integrate secure system design, threat modeling and robust API security into the product lifecycle
  • Lead incident response efforts and forensic investigations to mitigate the impact of security breaches and prevent future occurrences
  • Ensure data privacy is a core component of product architecture and data processing workflows, maintaining strict adherence to GDPR requirements
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive security documentation, including policies, standards, and incident handling procedures
  • Drive a 'security-first' culture by creating awareness training, providing technical guidance to cross-functional teams, and offering a security perspective on ad fraud and invalid traffic (IVT)

Requirements

  • 4–5+ years of professional experience in Cybersecurity / Security Engineering
  • Proven expertise in securing cloud environments (AWS/GCP), Linux deployments, and containerized workloads
  • Deep understanding of API security principles and experience securing APIs in high-throughput environments
  • Hands-on proficiency with cloud-native security tools, SIEM platforms, and vulnerability scanners (e.g., Nessus, Qualys)
  • Strong working knowledge of GDPR and its practical application in data-heavy, European-based environments
  • Experience managing vendor risk, third-party integrations, and dependency security
  • Strong ability to automate security workflows using Python, Bash, or similar languages
  • BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related technical field
