Full job description
Basis Technologies is seeking a mid-level AI Engineer to build AI-native product lifecycle workflows embedded across product design, engineering, sales, marketing, and delivery. The role involves designing agentic AI workflows, evaluating AI tooling, building MCP integrations and API layers, and improving decision-making across teams. Candidates must have hands-on AI engineering experience, familiarity with agentic AI patterns, MCP or similar AI integration experience, strong software engineering skills in TypeScript or Python, API design, automation scripting, and CI/CD pipelines. Experience working across multiple teams and comfort with ambiguity are required. Desirable skills include DevOps, platform engineering, workflow automation, SAP BTP knowledge, and understanding of EU AI Act and ISO 42001. The position is full-time, hybrid (2 days in office) based in Bracknell, UK. Benefits include competitive salary, pension, private medical insurance, life assurance, employee assistance, holiday entitlement, global work flexibility, parental leave, volunteer day, referral bonus, learning budget, and mental health support.
What you'll do
- Design and build agentic AI workflows that connect and automate handoffs across the product lifecycle – from engineering and QA through to delivery and sales
- Evaluate and select AI tooling across the lifecycle, establishing coherent standards for how different teams build and interact with AI capabilities
- Build MCP integrations and API layers that allow AI capabilities to operate across existing systems and workflows
- Identify where AI can surface context, reduce duplication, and improve decision-making as work moves between teams and lifecycle stages
- Work with product, engineering, delivery, and sales teams to understand their workflows and design AI-native improvements grounded in how the business actually operates
- Contribute to AI governance and compliance readiness, supporting the organisation's approach to the EU AI Act and ISO 42001
- Collaborate closely with the rest of the AI Function to ensure the tooling and patterns you build are consistent with the shared AI platform
Requirements
- Hands-on experience in AI engineering, building production AI/ML systems
- Demonstrable experience with agentic AI patterns: multi-step actions, tool use, state management, and defined guardrails
- Experience with MCP or similar AI integration patterns, and the ability to design service boundaries between AI capabilities and existing systems
- Strong software engineering fundamentals: TypeScript or Python, API design, automation scripting, CI/CD pipelines
- Experience working across multiple teams or business functions – ability to navigate different stakeholder contexts and translate between technical and non-technical thinking
- Comfortable with ambiguity and shaping the approach in a not yet fully defined business context
